Nike’s Air Force 1 Mid Is Getting a Winterized Upgrade With Waterproof Gore-Tex and Vibram
Nike called on the experts to update the classic sneaker for winter.
Last fall, Nike decked out its classic Air Force 1 Low sneaker with serious wet weather-ready upgrades including waterproof Gore-Tex membranes and grippy Vibram rubber outsoles. And this year, the popular concept will be revisited in a new mid-top form, giving the shoe an even more boot-like edge.
Official Nike e-commerce product images show two upcoming Air Force 1 Mid Gore-Tex Vibram colorways in Black/Smoke Gray (style code IO1875-001) and Summit White/Blue Tint/Black (style code IO1875-100). Aside from their newly heightened collar, the upcoming pairs don’t deviate too far from the previous Gore-Tex and Vibram-equipped Air Force 1s, although the materials on the new styles feature a softer nubuck-looking material compared to the leather used on the Lows.

Like the Lows, the Air Force 1 Mid Gore-Tex Vibram releases will feature branding from both collaborators with a Gore-Tex tag just beneath the Swoosh and Vibram’s signature yellow logo on the midsole. And at the bottom, the Air Force 1’s typical herringbone traction gets a serious upgrade with a more aggressive winterized pattern. Unique to the mid-top is a metal hook that fastens its collar strap, replacing the plastic hook traditionally seen on the Air Force 1 Mid.
The Air Force 1 has received quite a bit of attention from Nike this year. Most notably, the retro basketball model received a remastered Air Force 1 ’01 build which sought to replicate the look and feel of the sneaker’s 2001 build, a version beloved by purists. The sneaker has also been given a number of popular patent leather colorways and has been released in a variety of flower-adorned styles .
The Nike Air Force 1 Mid Gore-Tex Vibram will be released this fall for a to-be-determined retail price with expected availability from nike.com and select Nike Sportswear retailers.
