Tarte Cosmetics is under fire for how it’s marketing its new Snatch Stick, with some social-media users accusing the company of “rage baiting” its audience.
Tarte describes Snatch Stick ($26) as a contour and brush tool that will help shoppers get “an instant face lift effect, no needles required.” To market the product, Tarte gave creators PR boxes with photos of the recipient, marked up with dotted lines in a way a plastic surgeon might. Tarte also dispatched a converted ambulance, which it’s calling a “glambulance,” to offer influencers “snatch” consultations from professional makeup artists wearing scrubs.
Various social-media users are now calling out Tarte, accusing the company of making people feel as if they aren’t naturally beautiful, have flaws and/or require plastic surgery. Others say the company is trivializing emergency services and making light of situations in which people would need to use an actual ambulance.
