Amazon is continuing to expand its U.S. network with two new facilities in New York and Texas, Amazon told sister publication Supply Chain Dive.
The company is in the early planning stages of a 4 million-square-foot operations facility in Holbrook, New York, which will be equipped with advanced robotics and technology, Amazon said. The $1 billion investment will create about 1,000 full-time jobs.
Meanwhile, in Terrell, Texas, Amazon is planning to construct a distribution center to aid faster customer delivery and grow product selection, the company said. The $98 million facility is expected to span roughly 1.2 million square feet, according to a July 9 Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing. Construction on the regional distribution center is set to begin Aug. 3 and be completed by August 2027.
These planned facilities add to a growing roster of sites Amazon is planning to add to its supply chain operations footprint.
The company in August will begin building a nearly 250,000-square-foot sorting warehouse in Georgetown, Texas, which will operate within its fulfillment network. The facility will also feature robotic systems and multiple storage areas. Meanwhile, Amazon last year said it was developing a more than 3 million-square-foot robotics fulfillment center in North Carolina.
The e-commerce giant is also renovating several sites, while closing some warehouses. In Florida, Amazon plans to temporarily shutter a distribution facility in Port St. Lucie and convert it into a sortable fulfillment center. Elsewhere in Florida, Amazon is renovating an existing facility in Homestead into a fulfillment center.
