Michael Jordan’s High School-themed Air Jordan 5s Are Coming Back After a 14-year Hiatus
The shoe debuted in 2000 as one of the earliest non-original Air Jordan colorways.

Among non-original Air Jordan colorways, the Air Jordan 5 Laney has claim of one of the very best. Its colors represent Emsley A. Laney High School, where Michael Jordan famously failed to make the varsity team as a sophomore before coming back with a vengeance the following year. The shoe has only hit stores twice, but a third is on the way next year.
The Air Jordan 5 Laney is slated for a spring 2027 release, according to trusted leaker @zsneakerheadz. Although a stock keeping unit (DD0587-106) and color codes are all there is to go by now, the shoe is expected to remain true to form with a white leather base featuring a blue and yellow midsole, tongue and number 23 embroidery on the lateral heel.

When the Air Jordan 5 Laney made its debut in 2000, it was still very early on in Jordan Brand introducing new colorways for retro models and marked the first deviation from the model’s four original variants. The blue-and-yellow treatment has been used on several other models, as well as inspiring a distinctly different Air Jordan 5 in the Laney colors in 2019, but has only been reissued a single time in 2013.

Jordan’s bounce back from the setback early in high school forms the earliest part of his legend. The rejection motivated him to train harder as he grew four inches before entering his junior year. And once he finally made the varsity team, he began playing in the number 23 because it was roughly half of his older brother’s number 45.
The Air Jordan 5 Laney will release May 15,m through the Snkrs app and select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $215.
