The company, which also owns Kate Spade, hit its three-year target in year one.

Deputy Managing Editor

Coach parent Tapestry Inc. just wrapped up a doozy of a fiscal year.

Sales hit $8 billion — a 17 percent jump in constant currencies, excluding the now-divested Stuart Weitzman business. And net profits tallied $1.5 billion as the company bought back $1.4 billion of its own stock and still had room to boost its dividend by 16 percent.

That had Tapestry meeting the goals of its three-year plan, which isn’t even a full year old yet.

In an interview with WWD, chief executive officer Joanne Crevoiserat described it as “a defining year” for the New York-based company.

“It was an incredibly dynamic environment and our team not only drove strong growth, but we attracted millions of new customers around the world,” Crevoiserat said. “We did this by continuing to be relentlessly consumer-obsessed, data-driven and disciplined while delivering the magic and innovation that sets our brands apart. So this balance of magic and logic is really important in our business.”

The story at Tapestry remains very much the same, and has quarter after quarter despite the war in Iran, oil price hikes, weakening consumer confidence, worries over AI and more.

“We’re boring in that way, that we have a consistent strategy and the capabilities that we’re building and the culture, importantly, the internal culture that we’re building are structural and durable,” Crevoiserat said. “We see them not only driving the results that we delivered in 2026, but they’re what’s underpinning our confidence in 2027.”

Tapestry’s four-part Amplify strategic growth plan focuses on:

That’s a collection of corporate action items that are both easy to articulate and hard to pull off. Despite the company’s run — the stock is up 20.3 percent so far this year, giving Tapestry a sector-leading market capitalization of more than $31 billion — Crevoiserat said the best days are still ahead.

“The capabilities and the culture that we’ve built are durable competitive advantages,” she said. “And the most exciting part is that our greatest opportunities are still ahead. We talk about our success being by design. We have intentionally built this engine and we speak to a broad consumer base and we have a low share of a massive market and we’re going to continue to apply these disciplines to build from here off of a stronger, higher foundation.”

Net sales for the fourth quarter ended June 27 rose 9 percent to $1.88 billion, which, excluding Stuart Weitzman, translated into an 11 percent gain in constant currencies. Coach was up 14 percent in constant currencies to $1.6 billion while the still-turning-around Kate Spade slipped 7 percent to $235.1 million.

Adjusted gross margins tallied 78.1 percent of sales, an expansion of 180 basis points based on operational improvements and the favorable impact of the Stuart Weitzman sale, partially offset by pressure from tariffs.

And adjusted earnings per share hit $1.32, 4 cents ahead of the $1.27 analysts forecast, according to Yahoo Finance. Net income totaled $347.8 million, a turnaround from losses of $517.1 million a year earlier.

Tapestry is looking to hold on to its momentum.

This year, the company is forecasting revenues of $8.4 billion to $8.5 billion for midsingle-digit growth with EPS projected to come in at $7.80 to $7.90 for a low-double-digit expansion. Those forecasts straddle Wall Street expectations for revenue of $8.47 billion and EPS of $7.84.

“Our vision at Tapestry is to give more people the power to bring their own style and story into the world,” Crevoiserat said. “The operative language in there is ‘more people.’ We serve a very broad audience around the world. And as we think about the number of consumers who are waiting to fall in love with our brands and have the potential to buy our products in the markets where we already serve, that market is enormous.”

She said 25 million women in the company’s current markets will turn 18 this year, and every year for the next decade.

“We have been focusing on this consumer who’s at the point of market entry,” she said. “Today she’s Gen Z. One day, it’ll be Gen Alpha. And this muscle that we’re building to understand the customer and attract them to our brands and serve them really well and earn the right to be their first luxury handbag purchase, that’s a space we’ve always played in. And it’s a pipeline of new customers that we have an opportunity to serve.”

While Coach has turned into a shining example of how to grow in fashion, Tapestry is still working to apply that turnaround playbook to Kate Spade , which recently named Jonathan Saunders executive creative director.

“We’re doing the work to reignite durable growth at Kate,” Crevoiserat said. “The first phase of this work is around streamlining the business. And then we are solidifying the foundation, a healthier foundation to position the business to scale from a much healthier foundation. As we navigated through fiscal 2026, the streamlining actions were a greater headwind than we expected for the top line. And so the top-line improvement was slightly more gradual than we expected.

“We know we need to build stronger brand desire to accelerate the turn, sharpening our creative execution,” she said.

The business Saunders is walking into is much cleaner than it was. Forty percent of the stock keeping units have been cut.

And the work is continuing.

“We’re closing unproductive stores,” Crevoiserat said. “Some of that trickles into this fiscal year. There’s still some streamlining actions. And I think stepping away from promotional activity is something that we’ll continue to bring discipline to as we move forward. So that’s not a discipline that we’ll just let go. It’s something that has started this year and will continue.”
