Rimowa gives darts Classic treatment in new campaign

LVMH-owned German luggage brand Rimowa is taking its aluminum-crafted accessories off the airport carousel and into the game room with the launch of a limited-edition piece.

American actor Walton Goggins helps the maison introduce the Rimowa Dartboard Case in Silver in a new campaign set in the maison’s historic factory in Cologne. Developed with Winmau, the professional darts manufacturer and official supplier to the Professional Darts Corporation, the release arrives as Rimowa tests whether its grooved aluminum reads as a signature rather than a suitcase, looking beyond luggage for other places to put its design codes across the lifestyle category.

Precision at play

The brand is playing on the popularity of darts, which has moved from a pub pastime to a televised sport in recent years: broadcast viewing of the game has more than doubled since the 2021-22 season, according to Britain’s Sky Sports.

Its growing appeal has led Rimowa to reimagine gear associated with the activity, applying the same level of precision that comes standard in its suitcases.

Directed by Paris-based filmmaker Grégoire Dyer, an accompanying campaign casts Mr. Goggins as a security guard left to his own devices at Rimowa headquarters while his favorite football team plays elsewhere.

The shift begins uneventfully. Dressed in uniform, the actor moves through the empty facility, tending to the archive and passing through the factory while keeping track of the match.

Made in Cologne, the newly launched Dartboard Case follows the format of a traditional wall-mounted darts cabinet with a twist, as Rimowa transfers the look of its Classic luggage collections to a different kind of travel companion.

The case features a double-door aluminum construction that the house says is the first of its kind for the brand. It mounts to a wall with a minimal profile, all visible elements in a matching finish, while a Classic black leather handle allows the item to be carried by hand.

Inside, black microfibre surrounds a Winmau Blade X board, engineered for scoring consistency and presented in a cobranded design.

Each door compartment holds a professional-grade set of three darts, with Rimowa-branded black shafts and red and green flights carrying the maison’s monogram; a leather pouch protects the set in transit and holds spare parts.
